Tigger Tails — Winnie the Pooh Donuts Recipe

The wonderful thing about tiggers is tiggers are wonderful things!  Their tops are made out of rubber; their bottoms are made out of springs!  These Winnie the Pooh donuts are a tigger-ific way to start your day.  Chocolate donuts with orange icing and black stripes will have the kids bounding.

Do you have a favorite Winnie the Pooh character?  With so many adorable qualities, it’s hard not to fall in love with the pals from the Hundred Acre Wood.  The thoughtful Pooh Bear or the gloomy Eeyore are both contenders for favorites.

But the bouncy exuberance of Tigger is irresistible.  The spring in his tail as he bounds to and fro is matched by his cheerful “Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-oo-oo-oo!”  All of our favorite characters are back in Disney’s Christopher Robin.

Baked doughnuts (or donuts as we are going to pretend they’re spelled) are as simple to make as cakes or cookies.  Not a fan of frying at home, I opt for a simpler recipe that my family adores.  The orange icing and dark chocolate strips hint at Tigger’s tail.  They’d also be perfect for Halloween.  Bonus points if your family plans on dressing up as Winnie the Pooh characters for Halloween this year.

  • 1/2 C sugar
  • 1/4 C cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 6 tbsp sour cream
  • 1/4 C whole milk
  • 1/4 C canola oil

Orange Icing Ingredients

How to Make Tigger Donuts:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and baking soda.

In a small bowl, beat together the vanilla, egg, sour cream, milk, and oil.

Stir the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined.

Spoon in a greased donut pan like this option.

Bake for 8 minutes or until the tops spring back when you touch them.

Let the donuts cool in the pan before glazing.

Orange icing directions:

Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla and a few drops of orange gel food coloring until smooth.

Dunk the donuts in the glaze to fully coat and place on a wire rack to set, about 5 minutes to completely dry.

Using a microwave safe bowl, melt half of the Ghirardelli melting chocolate until smooth.

Pour the chocolate into a piping bag and cut off the tip.

Drizzle the chocolate over the doughnuts to give it stripes.

Let dry completely before enjoying!
