Don’t fear! This post has everything you need to know about Knott’s Scary Farm. From mazes to food offerings, get the inside scoop on everything in the fog.
As a Berry Blogger, I received complimentary admission to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scary Farm brings the largest and most haunting Halloween fun to Buena Park, California. The Knott’s Berry Farm park has been scaring guests for decades with chilling mazes, unescapable scare zones, themed entertainment and dining, and more.
I’ve been gearing up for the infamous fog for weeks. I was able to attend the 2019 Scary Farm Announcement where we got to check out the new offerings.
The Knott’s Berry Farm bloggers (Berry Bloggers) and some additional friends of the park were able to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the season. I’m so thrilled to break down everything you need to know about the haunting horrors that await you.
Scary Farm Mazes & Scare Zones
Each year brings excitement as we await the announcement of the mazes coming to the Scary Farm line-up. Even returning mazes are given fresh elements to keep us screaming for more, year after year.
Here’s which mazes are returning this year:
- Dark Ride
- Paranormal Inc.
- Pumpkin Eater
- Dark Entities
- The Depths
- Special Ops: Infected (last year)
- Shadowlands (last year)
With two mazes retiring this year, you’ll not want to miss your last chance. You can commemorate these mazes with new Knott’s Scary Farm Legends pins.
Special Ops: Infected with feature a new split path through a convenience store and meat packing plant. Dark Ride will now include a gift shop scene. Dark Entities adds more scares and lighting. The Depths begins with a freight elevator show scene that makes guests feel as though they’re submerging.
New Mazes for 2019
Wax Works
During a behind-the-scenes event, fellow Berry Bloggers and other Knott’s enthusiasts were able to get a sneak peek at the new maze. The opening scenes of the torched wax museum themed maze take you through traditional showings for a wax museum. Hollywood, Presidential displays, and notable figures fill your first moments.
But it’s not long before you realize that something is not right at this museum. Not only is the collector creating grotesque displays of his own design…the wax figures are made out of actual people.
The buzzing bees churning wax and the sensation that you’re being covered in wax yourself make it a must visit.
Origins: The Curse of Calico
The announcement of Origins: The Curse of Calico is so thrilling! For the first time, a Knotts-themed maze is added to the mix. How did the town of Calico become a ghost town? Find out in the trio of terror as a scare zone, maze, and The Hanging all come together to tell the tale of Calico.
Scare Zones
One thing that sets Scary Farm apart from other Halloween events, especially haunts, is your inability to escape those that lurk in the fog. From entry into the park, you may prey victim to the monsters.
Uniquely themed Scare Zones add to the thrills.
2019 Scare Zones
- CarnEVIL
- Ghost Town Streets
- The Hollow
- Forsaken Lake
The Forsaken Lake Scare Zone was new in 2018, and has been expanded for the 2019 season.
Shows
Puppet Up! Uncensored
Scream with fright, squeal with delight. Knott’s Scary Farm has it all covered. New to 2019 is the Brian Henson Pupper Up! Uncensored. The naughty improv puppet show was presented during the Scary Farm reveal night. The puppets are hilarious!
Although it’s not scary, the show is not family-friendly! Think of Who’s Line is it Anyway? without TV censorship. It can be hilariously raunchy and will be a great addition to the entertainment offerings.
There are three shows per night in the Charles M. Schultz Theater
Awaken the Dead
Head to Fiesta Village for on-going music and dancing. A DJ and sugar skull dancers get the crowd pumped.
Conjurers
Magic meant to amaze and amuse takes place during Conjurers – Magic and Mirth at the Bird Cage Theatre.
The Hanging – Witch’s Revenge
The pop-culture parody show features humor and high-flying stunts. For the first time, the show is themed to complement a Scare Zone and Maze. This nod to Knott’s has me even more excited to see what’s lined up for The Hanging this year.
Scary Farm Hours & Crowds
Knott’s Scary Farm is held select nights, September 19th through November 2nd. You can check out the full calendar here.
Scary Farm Hours:
- Thursdays & Sundays: 7 PM – 1 AM
- Fridays & Saturdays: 7 PM – 2 AM
I’ve had the best luck with smaller crowds on Sunday nights. If you’re planning on attending on a Friday, Saturday, or Halloween, you may consider adding a Fright & Fast Lane pass to your evening. It’ll get you to the front of the line for mazes and rides.
Scary Farm Tickets
Scary Farm is a separate ticket event, so all attendees (even passholders) will need tickets.
You can get discount Scary Farm tickets by purchasing them online from Knott’s Berry Farm. Save up to $46 off the front gate price. Purchase tickets online here.
Passholders can get tickets for as low as $38.
The best option is to secure your season of screams by purchasing a Scary Farm Pass. For $105, you’ll be able to enjoy every night of terror. Quantities are limited, so I wouldn’t wait on the pass.
Boo-Fet
All of that screaming can work up an appetite! Fuel up before Scary Farm at the Boo-Fet. The dinnder includes early entrance to select areas of the celebration. It also comes with a digital photo download with a monster.
What’s served at the Boo-Fet?
Enjoy endless supplies of Knott’s favorites like the famous fried chicken, a chef carving station, and boysenberry pie. The Boo-Fet also includes a souvenir cup.
Additional Dining:
If your sweet tooth is killing you, head to the Ghost Town Bakery for some amazing options!
The Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel also has dining options. Last year we met friends at the hotel bar for themed beverages prior to Scary Farm. Unsuspecting patrons may fall prey to lurking monsters. YES, there are monsters at the hotel, too!
If you have the dining plan on your annual pass, remember that they do not work during Scary Farm. Hack: arrive prior to park closure to use your dining plan, exit the park, and reenter for Scary Farm.
Is Scary Farm Kid-Friendly?
Amidst the monsters, you will see children. Knott’s recommends the event for individuals 13+.
My eldest is almost 12, and she is NOT ready for Scary Farm. It would terrify her, so we are going to hold off for at least a few more years. Each year I see children of varying ages (some younger than 13). Some are totally fine, others are not. You’ll need to use your discretion to assess if your child is ready.
Keep in mind that there isn’t a “safe area.” Monsters begin scaring at the park gate.
Scary Farm is the must visit haunt in Southern California. It’s the place where nightmares never end. If you have any questions about the seasonal screams, let me know in the comments!
Scary Farm kicks off its 2019 season September 19, 2019. See you in the fog!

This sounds like SO much fun, but I am such a scaredy cat! I went to a Six Flags Halloween event and that about did me in 😉 I may have to “cowgirl up”, though, so I can feature something like this for one of my adventures!
I’ll be excited to read more of your posts!!
