Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery Reopens

Bonjour and welcome back, Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery to Tustin, California.  Formerly Mimi’s Cafe, Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery celebrated its reopening and I was delighted to join in the delightful celebration.

Thank you, Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery, for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Long-time readers of Clementine County know that Mimi’s is my jam. The original location is just minutes away from my parents’ home, and it was were we had all of our parties, gatherings, and get togethers for years. You can read about some of our past visits here or here.

I was delighted to be invited to a reponening of the Tustin location, complete with ribbon cutting.

Mimi’s Cafe is now Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery

One significant refresh is the name. The new branding reflects the French influence and also the casual atmosphere of the chain. Here, you’re home. But kind of better than home because here there’s Pain Perdu, a dish I will always associate with my big sister. Mimi’s Pain Perdu with Mixed Berries is stuffed brioche French toast with orange marmalade and cream cheese blend, topped with fresh berries and strawberry purée. That’s way better than the mostly stale cereal in my pantry.

After visiting the official grand reopening, I went back to the Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery with friends.

I am not one for new years resolutions. In fact, my 2020 goal was to learn how to perfect the clown ice cream cone from my childhood. But if I did make a resolution for the year, it would be to commit more time to my friendships. It’s so easily to get engrossed in work and parenthood…the business of life.

But I’m commited to making a bigger effort to connect with my friends.

How do you make time for friends when life is so busy?

You brunch all day!

There’s no better way to do this than to brunch with my babes. And since Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery has a brunch all day vibe, we are set.

We started with a Brochette Trio, skewers of grilled chicken, shrimp, and ground beef topped with spicy peanut, teriyaki, and red wine sauces. I’m vegetarian, and my friends are gluten-free. Thankfully, there were dining options for us all. I had my eyes set on soup because corn chowder is like gold in my book.

Before you go, you can check out the gluten-free menu at Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery here.

From rustic chicken to Mimi’s Meatloaf, there are classics (or should I say classiques) you’ll adore. The corn chowder is equal parts delicious and nostalgic for me. We also ordered a cobb salad and Bacon Avocado Three-Egg Omelet with hickory-smoked bacon, spinach, tomatoes, monterey jack cheese, and avocado served with a side of roasted potatoes.

It was lovely to spend time with friends, chatting about what’s on the horizon, in a comfortable courtyard inspired dining room. As commited as I am to making more time with my friends, I appreciate that the new Mimi’s gets us.

If you’re short on time, Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery has your favorties to-go. Mimi’s Bakery-to-Go means I can nab my Buttermilk Spice muffins when I’m short on time or when I need a surprise for a friend. The best kinds of friends are the ones that show up with a cappucino and a muffin, am I right?

Mimi’s Bistro + Bakery is now open at 17231 17th St., Tustin, California. Visit for your brunch all day vibes.

  • Those muffins look amazing! One of my all-time favorite foods is homemade blueberry muffins!

  • I’m going to have to check it out. I used to go with my daughter and her mom almost weekly for years there. But then they closed the one down in Costa Mesa near where we lived and haven’t really been to one since. I will have to check it out again. Although my first memories of Mimi’s was when they actually served French cuisine and had escargot on the menu. That was wild.
