My family of six prefers to purchase memberships for family-friendly outings to save money. A Discovery Cube membership pays off in less than three visits. Our family membership includes parking and discounted companion tickets when we bring friends! Plus, we get discounts on retail purchases, camps, etc.

My favorite membership benefit is the ability to come and go! We prefer less busy days (obviously!). As members, we opt to skip holidays or first days of holiday breaks. Recently, the Discovery Cube rolled out Members Only mornings as an added benefit for passholders!

Best Ages to Enjoy Discovery Cube

Curiosity knows no age limit! With that said, we have found the majority of exhibits to be of interest to our kids as preschoolers through elementary-aged.

We love celebrating the various events at the Discovery Cube which include fun for a variety of ages. For example, Pumpkin Palooza in the fall has corn mazes, carnival games, trick-or-treating, and toddler “tractor” ride-on toys. My littlest loved in! My bigger elementary-aged kiddo rode bumper cares, and then moved on to the hands-on exhibits and the dance party.

Sensory-Friendly Mornings at the Discovery Cube

Children engage and explore in their own ways. We appreciate the Discovery Cube’s accessibility for all types of learners.

The Discovery Cube rolled out Sensory-Friendly Mornings every third Sunday of the month from 8 AM – 10 AM at both campuses.

What to Expect During a Sensory-Friendly Morning:

• Reduced crowds
• Sensory friendly maps
• Visual cue cards
• Welcoming staff allow guests independent exploration that targets specific interests and needs

*Free admission for one aide per family (with badge or medical ID)

The Sensory-Friendly Morning is ideal for little scientists on the autism spectrum. However, it’s a great opportunity for anyone who would benefit from reduced stimulation (yes, parents, that’s you, too!).

My timid toddler loves to explore and the Sensory-Friendly Mornings have been a perfect way for her to get comfortable at the Cube. At 2, she’s very uneasy about being anywhere indoors or dark. But we got to see the Winter Lights show during their Sensory-Friendly Mornings, and she not only experienced the full show but she participated!

Is Discovery Cube Good for Toddlers

It’s never too early to start a love of science! Little ones love hands-on exploration available at the Discovery Cube. There’s plenty to do!

Some of my toddler’s favorite exhibits:

• Dino Quest, especially the sand area
• Rainforest Area
• Sea Lab
• Physics Labs, especially the car raceway and the cloud rings

Don’t miss the water play patio for a toddler-sized retreat.

With a toddler, I plan on spending a few hours each visit. All that fun can work up an appetite. The Bean Sprouts Cafe has the most adorable kids meals! Grab a Whoopsie Daisy meal with plant-based chicken tenders arranged as a flower with veggies & ranch or Grilledzilla, a grilled cheese with veggies.

Dino Quest

Reopened in 2024, the reimagined Dino Quest features handheld Dino Tracker devices that allow you to complete one of four engaging missions. There’s also a Dig Excavation pit filled with sand and the tools needed to unearth “fossils.” Find out more about Dino Quest.

Sea Lab

You’ll sea so many cute creatures at the Sea Lab. The hands-on tanks have sharks and other fish to safely touch. Staff shares facts, plus tips for safely greeting sea life.

Eco Challenge: Discovery Market

It’s like Amazon Fresh without the price tag. Go on a challenge through a grocery store and scan products to answer questions. The kids love pushing the carts and taking their photo at the end.

Step outside Discovery Cube Orange County for an epic exhibition where a 16-foot Tyrannosauras Rex beckons you. Your first step should be picking up a hand-held Dino Tracker to go on one of four interactive missions.

Discovery Cube Dino Quest Missions

You’ll use your Dino Tracker to scan codes as you solve each clue.

• Dino Dig Adventure – Unearth the secrets hidden in fossils long ago. On this mission, you will discover what paleontologist find on an expedition like fossilized bones, eggs, and footprints.
• Junior Diggers – Train to become a dinosaur expert. This mission, designed for our younger paleontologists, will take you on a journey to find a baby Triceratops, a flying reptile called a Quetzalcoatlus, and a giant T-Rex.
• Adapt, Survive, Thrive – Explore the evolutionary journey that shaped these ancient creatures. On this mission you will explore the special features dinosaurs had to help them survive, like long necks, hollow bones, and body armor.
• Predator and Prey – Discover the strategies, adaptations, and challenges faced in the struggle for survival. Your mission? Survive and thrive in a world teeming with dinosaurs! Search for ancient creatures with sharp teeth, eyes on the sides of their head, and coprolite.

You can easily tackle multiple missions in a visit to the Discovery Cube. My kids did not want to leave this area!

Dino Quest’s Dig Excavation

Another popular element in the new Dino Quest is the Dig Excavation area. This large sand pit provides little discoverers an opportunity to excavate a T-Rex using shovels and brushes. Then, they can sort & report their discoveries.

My toddler spent almost an hour playing in the sand on each of our first two visits.

What Else Can We Do at Dino Quest?

In addition to the missions and dig pit, you’ll find adventure throughout the exhibit area.

• Fossil Yard – The West Coast welcomes its first Quetzalcoatlus to be on permanent display. You can check out other dinosaur fossils as well.
• Fossil Detector Box – Use multiple hands-on methods to see how paleontologists use grids to map out of their dig sites.
• Geyser – Control a bubbling geyser with user-activated control.
• Stomp, Chomp, & Roar – Get out your dinosaur-sized wiggles crawling through a tunnel or stroll through the inside of a dinosaur.

We were invited to experience the merriment of Universal Studios Hollywood, and it was quite the jubiliation! While my husband was elated to experience the Nintendo-themed addition and the classic back lot tour, I was looking forward to all things Grinch! It was a blast for the entire family. Universal Studios Hollywood captures the joy of the season with their seasonal offerings.

This popular character interaction is truly something special. The Grinch experience is engaging with spot-on improv that will have you howling with laughter.

Grinch Meet-and-Greet Tips:

• Check the official Universal Studios app for daily times and locations.
• There are multiple locations to meet the green cheermeister. Passholders: take advantage of shorter lines with an exclusive location above Jurassic Cafe.
• Get in line early. The line can be long! We waited over an hour.

Join the Grinch and his Who-ville friends in a daytime performance featuring the Who-Bee-Doo-Wops musical group. Rock out to hip-swinging, bell-ringing holiday classics as the Whos and guests come together in a joyous celebration. Marvel at the 65-foot-tall topsy-turvy “Grinchmas” tree adorned with ornaments and LED lights, lighting up Universal Plaza each night with a festive tree lighting ceremony and snowfall flurry.

Tip: As with Harry Potter, you’ll want to arrive early to secure seating.

Around the Who-bilation, you’ll find a variety of festive activities, including photo opportunities, story-time with Cindy-Lou Who, and ornament coloring. Plus, the citizens of Whoville are strolling the area for photos and general cheer throughout the day.

Tip: This area is filled with festive fun! If the line for the Grinch has your heart feeling three sizes too small, consider a photo with his dog Max (shorter wait) or the Whoville Mayor (no wait!).

Sweet treats and drinks are available for sale. We loved our Grinch-themed cupcake with hidden sprinkles and a heart at the center, and a 3 sizes cookie!

There’s festive decor throughout the theme park, perfect for photos and merry-making. This little one painted the Minion area pink!

Here Be Dragons Dinner Theatre Review

Thar be fun ahead! I brought my nine-year-old to enjoy the latest production from Pirates Dinner Adventure. We had a stowaway with my infant daughter joining us for the fun. The new show “Here Be Dragons” takes place on the recreation of the 18-century Spanish galleon surrounded by a 250,000-gallon lagoon. The theater is darkly lit with seating surrouding the ship.

Your dining section is color coded to the pirate you’ll be championing for the night. Ahead of the production, our pirate visited our section and selected guests to assist with upcoming challenges.

Once the show began, dinner was served and so was the fun!

We watched as dastardly pirates kidnapped a princess and mermaid, duel each other, and perform some hilarious hijinks! My nine-year-old was captivated throughout, giggling and cheering at the swashbuckling pirates.

The show contains many astonishing displays of special effects, including canon booms, lighting effects, aerial artistry, and water explosions. It may be startling to some visitors, but my infant and 3rd grader loved it all.

Pirate’s Dinner Adventure battles the Leviathan!

Wondering what’s new? The new show includes an animatronic dragon summoned by a stolen necklace. It moves its long neck atop the ship and snaps its harrowing jaw full of sharp teeth. It spews fire, but don’t dismay. The pirates have some help to defeat the villainous beast!

We’ve had the good fortune of being invited to experience other shows at Pirates Dinner Adventure like the holiday show, Pirates Take Christmas, so we knew to anticipate audience participation. It felt like there was even more audience participation in Here Be Dragons, and my daughter was thrilled to be selected.

The show is perfect for elementary aged children who enjoy role play and adventure.

How Long is the Show?

The family-friendly show runs 90+ minutes. It is high-energy and young guests will stay engaged by cheering on their pirate, assisting with challenges, and gobbling up their feasts.

What is served at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure?

Your admission includes a 3-course meal. Choose between soup or salad for your first course.

The main entree selection for adults includes your choice from the following list:

• Roasted Chicken
• Pork Loin
• Butternut Squash Ravioli (Vegetarian)
• Black Bean & Corn Patty with Vegetables (Vegan)

The children’s menu at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure features a slider, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes.

Adults 21+ can visit the Buccaneer Bar for alcoholic beverages including pirate themed cocktails.

How early should we arrive?

Plan on arriving approximately 60 minutes ahead of your showtime. This allows for time to pick up any pirate garb or sourvenirs ahead of time. When you enter, your group will be photographed in front of a green screen. Your photos will be shared with you while seated for consideration. Photo packages are available.

The bar is also open during this time.

How much is parking?

On-site parking is available. In advance parking is $7, or $8 at the door.

Are children under 2 free?

Yes, children under 2 are free. They do not receive a meal and sit on your lap. Our waitress did offer a booster seat, but my wiggly baby had more fun sitting on my lap and watching the show.

We’ve been fortunate to visit both dinner theater options and loved them.

Scoundrel pirates have captured Santa and Mrs. Claus, threatening to bring an end to the holiday season and disappointing all the good children around the world. With help from you, your family and a little bit of magic, you can ensure Santa beats the pirates and saves Christmas. Disney on Ice presents Road Trip Adventures Review

We were thrilled to be invited to check out the latest Disney on Ice show to pitstop through town. Road Trip Adventures has the premise of Mickey and friends on a trip that takes them to meet many of their Disney character besties. The car theming meant that a bunch of families were able to ride on the ice and be a part of the show. What a special memory for those selected.

However, it’s a truly magical memory for all who attend. This Disney on Ice show was SPECTACULAR! I’ve loved every single performance, but this show takes it to the next level. An Instagram follower even commented that this wasn’t the DOI of her childhood.

The Mary Poppins opening scene includes BMX bikers doing tricks, lamp lighter aerialists, plus songs from the new movie. The action and fun doesn’t slow down.

Another fantastic element is the movie projection. A circular screen descends throughout the performance with movie clips. Magically, characters appear on the ice once the screens are lifted. Even if you’ve seen every DOI performance, you won’t want to miss Disney on Ice presents Road Trip Adventures.

We’ve been fortunate to have Disney on Ice come to our area numerous times, and so thrilled to have been able to make it a family tradition. With new shows meaning new stories and character line-ups, each visit is just as magical as the first.

Although she’s almost 13, my tween still loves going to the show. It’s definitely a family friendly activity, with throngs of preschoolers and parents mixed with Disney fans of all ages. The inclusion of aerial performers, high theatrics, and nostalgia makes it so special.

We arrived about 30 minutes before the show started, and if you know me, you know that being late is the biggest anxiety-inducer in my life. I would recommend giving yourself an hour to park, get into the venue, buy snacks, and find your seat (check out the FAQ’s below for more tips).

The show runs about an hour and forty-five minutes, with an intermission about the one-hour mark. It’s engaging and will keep guests singing and dancing the whole time. I loved watching the families sitting on the ice level with their kids twirling and dancing. If you’ve got a mover & shaker in the family, I’d make sure to get seats with a little wiggle room.

One thing that was really special about this Disney on Ice show was how interactive it was! Definitely makes it an energetic experience.

Who Stars in Disney on Ice Mickey & Friends?

Each Disney on Ice show brings a unique line-up of beloved characters from across the Disney pantheon. This unique performance follows Mickey Mouse on a journey to discover his favorite memory of all time. Together with Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy, he uses is “Mouse Pad” to relive memorable moments from Disney classics.

In Mickey & Friends, you can expect to see:

• Moana See Moana set sail to save her island accompanied by the demigod, Maui
• Frozen Anna and Elsa discover true love is the most powerful magic of all
• Toy Story All the toys from Woody to a Ham celebrate friendship

There’s also a scene from Fantasia for all those vintage Disney lovers. My kids have maybe seen the movie once, so it didn’t connect as much as other portions of the show but still fun for those of us who remember Sunday nights with Disney.

How long is Disney on Ice? The show runs about 2 hours. There is a short intermission in between the acts, so you don’t have to miss a second of the fun!

What ages should attend? Disney on Ice is fun for the whole family! Consider making it a family affair for a magical family memory.

Is it cold inside? Inside it does get a little chilly. You’ll want to wear warm clothes like jeans and a sweatshirt. Wanting to get into the festive fun? Dressing in your Disney best is totally appropriate. We saw tons of princess dresses, Mickey tees, and hilarious Hei Hei hats. Ears are optional, but obviously adorable.
