There’s nothing quite like seeing Disneyland through your toddler’s eyes. But if you’ve ever traveled with little ones, you know every toddler experiences the park differently. Some run straight for Mickey, while others cling to your leg at the sight of a character.

To help you plan a smoother trip, here’s a fun guide to the most common toddler personality types at Disneyland. Which personality profile best fits your toddler?  Planning with your day with your toddler’s personality in mind will make for a magical visit to the Disneyland Resort.

Disneyland with Toddlers Based on Their Personalities

Disneyland with Toddlers

Disneyland with toddlers is pretty darn adorable.  But there’s so much to see and do at Disneyland!  How can you maximize the fun at Disney while making it the most fun for your little one?  Match your toddler’s personality and plan your day at Disney!

Make it a Disney day! Get your discounted tickets here!

Character Cuddler

  • Traits: Outgoing, friendly, always has something to say
  • At Disneyland: Gleefully yells when they see their favorite characters IRL

Does your child fill with glee when he or she spots a princess or character? Character Courters fully embrace the magic of seeing their favorite Disney characters full-size and in-person. They hug, they pose, they squish their little arms close to their bodies in glee at meeting their heroes.

If your toddler is a Character Courter, try some of these attractions:

  • Main Street, U.S.A-As you enter the park, be on the lookout for the Fab Five. Mickey Mouse and his pals are known to stop for photos here.
  • Royal Hall- Meet up to 3 princesses within the Royal Hall, plus additional outside. Located within Disneyland, near Sleeping Beauty’s castle
  • Pixie Hollow- TinkerBell & her fairy friends can be found on the opposite side of the Disneyland castle as you fly towards the Matterhorn.
  • Avenger’s Campus– In Disney California Adventure Park, you can assemble with favorite heroes like Spider-Man.

Thrill Seeker

  • Traits: Bold, adventurous, loves a good rush.
  • At Disneyland: Wants to ride again and again—even if the ride is a little intense.

If your child loves the excitement of seeing Disney stories come to life, you have a Thrill Seekers.  Now waiting and toddlers don’t often mix, so make sure you check your Disneyland app to check for approximate wait times.

There are zillions of options, but these are some ideas to get you started:

  • Fantasyland– Each ride within Fantasyland is perfect for younger guests. Iconic Dumbo, the King Arthur Carousel, and the Mad Tea Party are great places to start.
  • The Many Adventure’s of Winnie the Pooh- We try to stick together as much as possible, but while my big kids are on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, my little one and I visit the Hundred Acre Woods. It’s as sweet as hunny!
  • Cars Land-Drive into a replica of the town of Radiator Springs to ride attractions like Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. The wacky spins will have your toddler saying, “Again!” again and again.
  • Jumpin’ Jellyfish-Soar into the sky with jumping jellyfish who then glide back down to dry land.

Mega Mover

  • Traits: Curious, energetic, always on the move
  • At Disneyland: Wants to see everything—from rides to parades to snacks.

Is your little one on the go from sun up to sun down? Disneyland has fun for Mega Movers, too! Keep in mind these places that have a little more space for exploration and movement.

Try these options for some free-range fun:

  • Toon Town– Explore Minnie & Mickey’s homes and get Goofy in Goofy’s Playhouse. While running & splashing in the fountain, hop on the instrument emblems on the ground for a musical surprise.
  • Adventureland Treehouse inspired by Walt Disney’s Swiss Family Robinson- Use up some of that boundless energy while scaling the numerous staircases into Adventureland Treehouse. At the bottom of the house, there are ropes to climb on & tons of explorer supplies to bang on.
  • Redwood Creek Challenge Trail- This one’s my personal favorite for letting little ones let loose. Ropes bridges, slides, tunnels make for bursts of fun. There are animal footprints to follow, maps to scratch off, and LOTS of things to climb.

Show Stopper

  • Traits: Quiet, cautious, takes time to warm up.
  • At Disneyland: May hesitate to meet characters or ride attractions right away.
DisneyPersonality4

Perhaps more reserved, the Show Stopper likes to take it all in from a safe distance. The Show Stopper might also need a break from weather or a way to relax before nap time.

These live shows, parades, and other performances are perfect for watching the magic light up in your toddler’s eyes, like Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!

I’ve found that my toddler is primarily a Thrill Seeker. The closer we are to nap time or the way the wind blows can sway her into other profiles too. Having a guide map for the fun makes it easier to know which rides or attractions will suit her best.

The Meltdown-Prone Toddler (a.k.a. Every Toddler at Some Point)

  • Traits: Overstimulated, overtired, needs extra patience.
  • At Disneyland: Big feelings happen—whether it’s in line, during fireworks, or over the wrong churro color.

Tips for Parents:

  • Have a “calm-down plan” (snacks, stroller ride, or shaded spot).
  • Use rider switch if one parent needs to step out.
  • Remember that meltdowns are part of the journey. Take a deep breath and reset.

FAQs About Toddlers at Disneyland

Does my toddler need a separate ticket?
Each guest ages 3 and older needs their own ticket and reservation. You can save on your family vacation with packages from Get Away Today.

What are the best rides for toddlers at Disneyland?
Some favorites include it’s a small world, Dumbo, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Jungle Cruise, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Can toddlers nap at Disneyland?
Yes! Many toddlers nap in their stroller, or you can head to quieter spots like like Tomorrowland near Autopia or Galaxy’s Edge near Rise of the Resistance.

Every toddler experiences Disneyland differently, and that’s what makes the memories so magical. Whether your little one is an Explorer, an Observer, or somewhere in between, a little planning and patience will help you enjoy the day together.

✨ Pro tip: Capture your toddler’s unique personality with a Disneyland PhotoPass. It’s the perfect keepsake of who they were at this age.

How lucky are foodies when they arrive in Anaheim! Upscale dining, quirky Instagram-friendly spots, and local favorites that have grown by word of mouth all have a home here. But few spots pack as much personality, flavor, and pure fun as Calaca Mamas Cantina. Just steps from Disneyland’s main gates, this Harbor Blvd. gem blends fresh flavors with a modern twist, creating an experience that’s as memorable as any ride inside the parks.

Whether you’re a Disney park hopper looking for a delightful meal or a local hunting for a new go-to, Calaca Mamas deserves a place on your radar.

Why Calaca Mamas Stands Out Among Mexican Restaurants in Anaheim

Anaheim is home to plenty of Mexican eateries, but Calaca Mamas takes the fiesta up a notch with vibrant Día de los Muertos-inspired décor, a menu full of fresh & organic ingredients, and playful spins on traditional favorites. I was delighted when an invite to join them hit my inbox. I’ve driven past it countless times, wondering what yumminess waited inside.

From slow-braised birria to elote topped with tangy crema and cotija, every bite feels like a celebration. The chef’s creativity shows in their signature dishes down to their desserts like an adorable churro cart served with dipping sauces.

Perfectly Positioned on Harbor Blvd.

When it comes to restaurants on Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim, location is everything. Calaca Mamas is perfectly situated directly across from Disneyland Resort. Pop over after a day of park hopping or after checking into a nearby hotel. But it’s also perfect if you’re cruising Harbor looking for dinner.

To be totally honest, as an Anaheim local, I’m often hesitant to travel to the resort district. Total mistake on my part! I had had Calaca Mamas on my foodie bucket list for years, but never made it over. To think of how many taco trios I missed out on is heartbreaking.

Parking is straightforward with a metered parking lot shared with the Best Western. Bring your ticket & receive 2.5 hours of validated parking for free.

A Great Option for Restaurants Near Disneyland

Finding restaurants near Disneyland that aren’t inside the park (and don’t require park admission) can be a challenge. Calaca Mamas solves that problem offering generous portions, a full bar, and relaxed seating just minutes from the gates.

It’s a perfect spot for:

  • A hearty breakfast before your Disney day
  • A midday taco break without paying theme park prices
  • Post-fireworks margaritas with friends on the patio

You can be in and out in an hour or linger with drinks and dessert while the post-show crowds thin out.

Calaca Mamas Menu Highlights

Our helpful waiter shared the Quesabirria Tacos were a popular favorite. Other menu items include burritos, tacos, and bowls with your choice of protein. All of the ingredients are organic.

Guacamole Calaca Mamas Cantina

We started with guacamole served with chips, radishes, and cucumbers. Because I’m commited to being thorough, we also got the elote. Three corn cobs on a stick arrived with yummy cremayo, tajin, cotija cheese, and cilantro.

Vegetarian Options

Finding places where vegetarian options aren’t merely a selection of side dishes always feels like a win for me. I opted for the taco trio with each of the vegetarian selections: Jackfruit Al Pastor, Charred Cauliflower, and Mushrooms. Each featured its own salsa.

Vegetarian taco trio Calaca Mamas Cantina Anaheim

One tricky piece with authentic flavors is often food cooked in lard, but our waiter assured me I was good to go.

The food is also gluten-friendly. However, those with allergies may want to discuss cross-contamination with other foods containing gluten.

Drinks

Looking for a date night spot or a post-park cocktail? Make sure to saddle up to the bar at Calaca Mamas.

I loved the Cabo Sunset featuring Cutwater Three Sheets rum, Giffard passion fruit liqueur, Peychaud bitters, lemon juice, housemade guava passion fruit foam. Not only was it pretty, it was so delicious.

My husband opted for one of their mocktails called the Blushing Maria. The strawberry and mint flavors were so fresh, and I hate to admit I probably stole more than a few sips.

There’s also a full selection of margaritas, tequilas, whiskeys, and more!

Desserts

Do not skip dessert at Calaca Mamas! Here are a few favorites I’d recommend:

  • Flan de la Abuela
  • Fried Ice Cream
  • Cinnamon-sugar churros with chocolate and caramel

The churros were served in an adorable table-top churro cart with a lit sparkler, making it the perfect treat for a birthday or celebration.

Calaca Mamas Vibe

The dining room is lively, colorful, and full of details perfect for Instagram. Painted skull murals, bright papel picado banners, and cozy lighting create a warm yet energetic vibe. Outdoor seating is also available for those who want to soak up the Anaheim sunshine.

Final Verdict – Our Calaca Mamas Cantina Review

If you love bold Mexican flavors, colorful settings, and friendly service, Calaca Mamas Cantina should be your next stop. It’s a standout, perfectly located for locals and visitors alike.

For locals: We know the instinct is to avoid Harbor Blvd. unless you’re headed into the parks. Trust me, it was me, too. Calaca Mamas is worth breaking that habit. You don’t need a Disney ticket to enjoy a great meal, just a good appetite and maybe a craving for churros.

Meet FRAN, a ten-vehicle fleet of all-electric micro-transit vehicles transporting residents and visitors around Anaheim’s Center City for free!

How Does FRAN work?

It couldn’t be simpler to get a ride! Using the A-Way WeGo mobile app (available in the App Store or Google Play), you can request a car. If you happen to be downtown already, you can scan the QR codes on physical signs or hop on by hailing a car.

FRAN is complimentary, but I strongly believe that tipping makes you a good neighbor.

FRAN Operating Hours

FRAN operates Friday through Sunday from 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM with refined stop locations.

FRAN Locations

FRAN covers a five-mile radius of Anaheim’s vibrant Packing District and Center City. Hopping around Center City for the day? Take FRAN to explore these locations.

  1. The Center St. Circle  (Anaheim ICE / Harbor Lofts / Wells Fargo)
  2. Center Street Promenade (GOOD FOOD / St. Joseph’s Disney Travel / MiX)
  3. Carnegie Plaza (Ctr St / Anaheim West Tower / MUZEO)
  4. Post Office at Broadway
  5. Kraemer Building (Kraemer Building / Community Center)
  6. Anaheim City Hall (City Hall / River Arena)
  7. Packing District at Farmer’s Park
  8. Packing House
  9. MAKE
  10. Villains Brewing Co.
  11. Towne Center Shops
  12. Central Library
  13. Colony Wine
  14. Little People’s Park

Where to take FRAN?

There is so much happening in Downtown Anaheim, and so many places FRAN can take you. The historic citrus packing plant turned food hall at the Packing House is a stylish must for any foodie.

Anaheim’s craft beer scene is thriving, and stops like Unsung Brewing Co. at the MAKE Building make it clear why.

Center Street is one of my places in town. Grab a sandwich at Windsor Brown’s or coffee from Okayama Kobo Bakery & Cafe. If you’re looking for more geek-friendly activities in town, check out my Geek’s Guide to Anaheim.

Riding FRAN with Kids

FRAN is a great option for the whole family. However, there are some considerations for transporting kids.

  • Children must be 14 years old to ride without an adult.
  • Booster seats are available for children over 40 pounds.
  • There are not infant seats available.

Who was Fran?

The transportation system was aptly named for its acronym, but also for a person of significance in Anaheim. Fran vehicles are decked out in bright orange with the silhouette of Francisca Avila Rimpau.

Francisca, daughter of Francisco Avila, was the mayor of Pueblo de Los Angeles before California gained statehood. She married German immigrant Theodore Rimpau and the couple later moved to Anaheim.

Their family built a name for themselves as real estate developers, educators, and people of prominence in Anaheim. A sheep farmer in today’s Fullerton area, the Rimpau family achieved great prosperity and high social standing thanks to their community involvement.

Each of the FRAN vehicles bears the name of one of Francisca’s daughters or granddaughters.

FRAN brings convenience to a blossoming section of town that is ideal for travelers and residents alike. Looking to explore more of Anaheim destinations? Make sure to pick up your copy of 100 Things to Do in Anaheim Before You Die today!

Looking to shop a boutique consignment store with a thoughtfully curated collection that also does good for the community? Check out RARE by Goodwill in Anaheim, California.

What is RARE by Goodwill?

RARE by Goodwill is a unique thrift store model operated by Goodwill. The retail space offers carefully curated clothing, home decor, books, vinyl, and more. Selected from items donated to Goodwill charities, the downtown Anaheim space offers fashion-forward pieces at a fraction of retailer prices.

Shop the racks of clothing items, denim, and shoes. The window-front mannequins feature seasonal looks that feel totally modern and now.

It’s a great opportunity to pick up affordable fashion and do good for the community while you’re at it. The collection of housewares is small, but it’s the clothings, shoes, and vinyl that are the bigger draw. Our most recent visit had us walking out with a flannel and sweater for my teen. It’s got a good variety of denim available, plus dresses if you’re on the hunt for a look that no one else will have.

Don’t miss the photo opportunity with the books making an Instagrammable display on the back wall.

In a statement made through their Instagram account, Pour Vida Tortillas & Taps announces a temporary closure.

In 2023 most restaurants have seen close to a 30% or greater decline in sales and we have certainly been one of them. We have, as a family, and as an extended family through our staff, poured our heart and soul into this business since 2015. We hope that this is just a temporary closure while we figure out how to float Pour Vida through these difficult times. We have every intention of reopening and redoubling our efforts. We have been a part of this community since we began in our first spot and would hate to have to leave for good. We are fortunate to have very understanding building owners and are working diligently to come to a resolution that keeps us in the neighborhood.

The location originally opened on Center Street Promenade in 2015. The colorful spot proudly displayed “Tacos are cheaper than therapy” on a neon sign making their casual and fresh vibe apparent. The walk-up counter offered a variety of tacos from land, sea, and garden each more delicious than the last. Among my family’s favorites: the Anaheim Burger Taco, Pineapple Skirt Steak, and the must-eat Brussel Sprout.

Pour Vida Brussel Sprout Taco

The hip taqueria moved down the street to a larger space with indoor and outdoor dining. The blossoming restaurant expanded to include locations in Newport Beach and Fullerton, California. But the pandemic hit small businesses hard.

Owners posted, “We will keep operating in our Downtown Fullerton location and hope that our Anaheim supporters will follow us there. We ask that our diners give us some grace as we navigate through this tough time and continue to support while they can.”

As an Anaheim local, it saddens me to see community members closing their doors, even temporarily. I hope we can all rally around Chef Jimmy at the Fullerton location.

Pour Vida Hours

Sunday – Wednesday 11 AM – 9 PM

Thursday 11 AM – 10 PM

Friday – Saturday 10 AM – 11 PM

With all things in flux, it bears a note that Pour Vida Tortillas & Taps is listed as one of the 100 Things to Do in Anaheim Before You Die. I hope that the restaurant’s temporary closure is just that, temporary, and we can be eating Brussel Sprout tacos in Anaheim again soon.

Save the Date! The CHOC Walk in the Park is returning to the Disneyland® Resort August 20, 2023. The annual fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) brings in up to $3 million each year for Orange County children’s health. Keep reading for everything you need to know about supporting the CHOC Walk!

The event brings the community together to raise funds for healthcare programs at CHOC for Southern California’s kids, especially programs and services in the greatest need.

CHOC Walk in the Park 2

I’ve been a proud supporter of the CHOC Walk in the Park for years. Each person who volunteers has their own story of why they walk. Mine is a tribute to my nephew Dominic, who we lost to leukemia when he was 10. Although he lived across the country far away from CHOC and received excellent care elsewhere, supporting CHOC gives me a way to remember his childhood and do my part to preserve the health of local children.

At a recent CHOC event, we were able to meet this 2023 CHOC Walk Ambassador and hear his CHOC story. I did my best not to blubber in the back of the room.

2023 CHOC Walk Ambassador, Hudson Kent

At just 15 months, Hudson Kent was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Before he would turn 3, Hudson would endure four surgeries and six months of chemotherarpy.

“Even on the darkest days, there is a light. And for us, that was CHOC,” says Eby, Hudson’s mom.

Thankfully, he is celebrating 12 years cancer free! I’ll be proud to walk through the park with Hudson’s network, Team HHK, in August. I hope you can join me!

When is CHOC Walk 20203

For the first time since 2019, the CHOC Walk in the Park is back at the Disneyland® Park! Join the fun on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Disneyland® Park!

“We’ve been involved with ‘CHOC Walk in the Park’ for 33 years, and we are excited to bring it back
as a magical 5K experience inside the parks,” said Ken Potrock, president of Disneyland Resort.
“Over the decades, we have helped raise $42 million to help CHOC support children and families in
our community. We are proud to welcome back this highly anticipated event and to continue Walt
Disney’s legacy of being an active, supportive, and caring neighbor.”

Together, CHOC supporters will join as a community to walk down Main Street, U.S.A. and throughout the special park pathway. Along the way you’ll find magical surprises and appearances!
